CME 7.1 Full Readme File:

CAVEAT: Only CME systems with a minimum of 128MB of flash should use the cme-full-7-1-0-0.tar file; 
with smaller flash sizes, customers should use the cme-full-7-1-0-0.tar file and then individually add phone 
firmwares, ringtones, backgrounds, and b-acd prompts as needed.

Please follow the procedure below to upgrade to CME 7.1 from any earlier version of CME.  This is to be done 
after upgrading the IOS to support CME 7.1.  For a list of IOS/CME compatibility matrix, please refer to

Recommended TFTP server: Unix TFTP or JouninTFTP server for windows.  When downloading large 
files via TFTP, some free tftp servers can't handle files larger than 32mb.  Older non-32 bit tftp-servers
can't handle large files and thus tftp transfers may fail.

NOTE: 
(1) These new tar packages can only be used with routers that support unix file structure such 
as 37xx, 28xx, 38xx (no support for 26xx)


(2) The "cme-full-7.1.0.0.tar" package will only be supported on routers with a minimum of 128mb of flash.  
The cme-full-7.1.0.0.tar file is 70,637,568 bytes - add the file size of 
the TAR 
file to the size of the IOS to determine if you have enough flash space available.


(3) Supported Phone Types:
- 7906/11, 7921/25, 7931, 7937, 7941/61, 7942/62, 7945/65, 7970/71, 7975


(4) Installing the CME TAR package, the administrator should clean up old files on the flash.  A quick way to
do this would be to format the flash using the command "format flash:".  
However, be careful to save any custom files on the flash by backing up to a tftp-server.  

WARNING!:  If you format the flash to clear the files, be sure to reload the correct IOS file to the flash before 
continuing.  Failure to do this will cause your router to fail to reload and force you into rommon 
system recovery.


===>(5) Also, if there is a "vlan.dat" file on the flash, be sure to save this as to the TFTP server.  The vlan.dat file 
===>contains vlan information for the router.  Use of this file is deprecated.  If you are using the new method of 
creating vlans and the data is stored in the IOS configuration, this is not a concern.  This feature was introduced 
in IOS 12.4T.

1. Download the cme-full-7.1.0.0.tar file. This TAR file includes all the phone loads 
(7906/11, 7921/25, 7931, 7937, 7941/61, 7942/62, 7945/65, 7970/71, 7975), as well as
gui files, and ringtones.  The gui files will be unarchived to the "gui" folder, while the ringtones and xml
will be downloaded to the "ringtones" folder. Phone loads will be downloaded to the "phone" folder and B-ACD prompts
will also be stored in the folder "bacdprompts".


All cme-full-x.x.x.x.tar files are posted on the CCO site below:

If there are additional phones you wish to support that are not included in this TAR package, please go the following link 
and download the "cme-124-22YB.zip" file.  Then unzip the file and manually add additional phone loads for the phone types 
that you wish to use.

2. Extract phone load files to your router flash. Copy the cme-full-x.x.x.x.tar to a TFTP server, 
and enter archive command to extract contents of tar file to router Flash:

Router#archive tar /xtract tftp://ip-address-of-tftp-server/cme-full-7.1.0.0.tar flash: 

For example, if your TFTP server address is 192.168.1.1, you would enter:
archive tar /xtract tftp://192.168.1.1/cme-full-7.1.0.0.tar flash:

3. Share the phone load, ringtone, and background files by issuing the command 'tftp-server flash:xxxxxx' for 
each file on the flash.

5. Specify the load command for each phone type - afterwards, configure the command "create-cnf" underneath 
telephony service and reset the phones

===>6. Reset the phones to upgrade to the new phone firmware files. You can reset all phones using the following 
command sequence:

===> config terminal
===> telephony-service
===> reset all

Please note that the phone may 
reboot multiple times and can take up to 10 minutes for each phone to upgrade. 
Do not unplug or reset the phones during this process until the phone registers to CME with a 
Directory Number displayed.
