Alarms
The Alarms tab lists current alarms for the Cisco ONS network, node, or card and updates them in real time. The Alarms tab shows alarms in compliance with Telcordia GR-253. This means that if a network problem causes two alarms, such as loss of frame (LOF) and loss of signal (LOS), CTC shows only the LOS alarm in this window because it supersedes and replaces the LOF.
Note: When an entity is put in the OOS,MT administrative state, the ONS 15454 clears all standing alarms on that entity. Alarms and events are raised but not reported; you can retrieve alarms and events on the Conditions tab. You can change this behavior for the LPBKFACILITY and LPBKTERMINAL alarms. Setting the NODE.general.ReportLoopbackConditionsOnPortsInOOS-MT to TRUE on the NE Defaults tab causes these alarms to be reported on the Alarms tab.
Tip: In network view, double-click an alarm to display the node or card where the alarm occurred. In node view, double-click an alarm to display the card where the alarm occurred.

If the alarm is raised on a card, the port where the alarm is raised. For STSTerm and VTTerm, the port refers to the upstream card it is partnered with.
Number of synchronous transport signals (STSs) contained in the alarmed path. The column reports the width as a 1, 3, 6, 12, 48, etc. as appropriate, understood to be "STS-n."
Alarm severity level: CR (Critical displayed in red), MJ (Major displayed in orange), MN (Minor displayed in yellow), NA (Not Alarmed displayed in pink), or NR (Not Reported displayed in blue).
Alarm status: R (raised), C (cleared), or T (transient). A transient (T) event is one that is automatically raised and cleared in CTC during system changes such as user login, logout, loss of connection to node view, etc. Transient events do not require user action.
Error message/alarm name. These names are described in the "Alarm Troubleshooting" topic, which you can view by choosing Contents and Index from the CTC Help menu.
(Network view or Multishelf Node view only) When checked, indicates a multishelf alarm.
Displays the Alarm Filter dialog box where you can set the filter parameters for the alarms that appear on the Alarms tab.
Turns the filter on or off. CTC retains that last filter activation setting. For example, if you turn the filter on and then log out, CTC keeps the filter active the next time you log in.
The table below lists the colors that appear on the Alarms tab to identify alarm and condition severities.
