Conditions

The Conditions tab displays retrieved fault conditions for the network, node, or card. A condition is a fault or status detected by Cisco Optical Networking System (ONS) hardware or software. When a condition occurs and continues for a minimum period, Cisco Transport Controller (CTC) raises a condition, which is a flag showing that this particular condition currently exists on the ONS node. The Conditions tab does not automatically update to show new conditions; you must use the Retrieve button to refresh the tab.

The Conditions window shows all conditions that occur, including those that are superseded. For instance, if a network problem causes two alarms, such as loss of frame (LOF) and loss of signal (LOS), CTC shows both the LOF and LOS conditions in this window. Having all conditions visible can be helpful when troubleshooting the node. If you want to retrieve conditions that obey a root-cause hierarchy (that is, LOS supersedes and replaces LOF), you can exclude the same root causes by checking the Exclude Same Root Cause check box.

Tip: In node view, you can double-click an alarm to display the card where the alarm occurred.

Description

Date

Displays the date and time of the condition.

Node

(Network view only) The node where the condition occurred.

Object

Shows the TL1 access identifier (AID) for the alarmed object. For an STSMON or VT-MON alarms, the object.

Eqpt Type

If the alarm is raised on a card, indicates the card type.

Shelf

(Network view or Multishelf Node view only) When checked, indicates a multishelf condition.

Slot

If the alarm is raised on a card, indicates the slot where the condition occurred.

Port

If the alarm is raised on a card, indicates the port where the condition is raised. For STSTerm and VTTerm, the port refers to the upstream card with which it is partnered.

Path Width

Indicates how many STSs are in the path.

Sev

Identifies the condition severity level: CR (Critical displayed in red), MJ (Major displayed in orange), MN (Minor displayed in yellow), NA (Not Alarmed displayed in pink), or NR (Not Reported displayed in blue).

SA

When checked, indicates a service-affecting alarm.

Cond

Shows the error message/condition name.

Description

Displays a description of the condition.

Retrieve

Requests the current set of fault conditions. The Conditions tab is not updated when conditions change; therefore, you must click Retrieve to see any changes.

Filter

Displays the Conditions Filter dialog box to filter the conditions that appear on the Conditions tab.

Exclude Same Root Cause

If checked, eliminates all lower-level alarms or conditions that originate from the same cause from the Conditions tab. For example, a fiber break might cause an LOS alarm, an alarm indication signal (AIS) condition, and a signal fail (SF) condition. If you check the Exclude Same Root Cause check box, the AIS and SF conditions are eliminated because the LOS alarm supersedes them. According to Telcordia, exclusion rules apply to a query of "all conditions from a node."

Turns the filter on or off. CTC retains that last filter activation setting. For example, if you turn the filter on and then log out, CTC keeps the filter active the next time you log in.
