Defaults

Use the Defaults subtab to view the default settings for the ONS node. The subtab provides descriptions of node and card default settings and allows you to edit, import, and export the settings.

The defaults are preinstalled on each ONS node control card, including the TSC for the ONS 15600, the TCC2 or TCCP card for the ONS 15454, the XTC card for the ONS 15327, the 15310-CL-CTX card for the ONS 15310-CL, and the CTX2500 card for the ONS 15310-MA. The defaults also ship as a node-defaults.txt file on the CTC software CD in case you want to import the defaults onto existing control cards. The node defaults include card-level and node-level defaults, as well as defaults that affect CTC.

Most of the defaults provide initial values for cards, ports, protection groups, cross-connects, and SONET paths when these entities are created (for example, when cards are installed or preprovisioned, protection groups are provisioned, etc.). Changes made to these entities after creation override the settings without changing the defaults. Likewise, changing such defaults does not affect existing entities. If you change the settings on the Defaults subtab, either by editing them directly or by importing a new defaults file, the new defaults take effect immediately for all ONS node settings except:

• Protection parameters (the NODE.circuits.upsr and NODE.protection defaults groups)

• Power monitoring parameters (NODE.powerMonitor)

CTC default changes take effect when CTC is restarted. For more information about individual NE defaults, refer to the reference documentation for the ONS node.

Item	Description
Defaults Selector	Displays an expandable, collapsible defaults tree. Clicking a tree item displays the item's defaults, for example, clicking an individual card displays the card's defaults in the Default Name and Default Value columns.
Default Name	Displays the default name.
Default Value	Displays the default value. Clicking this table cell allows you to change the default value. Some cells display a drop-down list of all possible values, while others are free text or range-limited numbers. When you finish, click another cell to enable the Apply button.
Apply	Applies changes to the Defaults subtab.
Reset	Cancels Defaults subtab changes and returns the fields to their last-saved settings.
Import	Displays the Import Defaults to File dialog box to import defaults that are stored as a text file (.txt) on a local or network computer.
Export	Displays the Export Defaults to File dialog box to export the defaults to a text file (.txt) on a local or network computer. The defaults can then be imported to other ONS nodes.
