SONET Thresholds (DS-1 and DS-3 Cards)

The SONET Thresholds subtab allows you to edit SONET thresholds for DS-1 and DS-3 cards. For a list of ONS nodes and cards that support this subtab, see Provisioning.

Near End

Select Near End and click Show Thresholds to display the near-end thresholds.

Far End

Select Far End and click Show Thresholds to display the far-end thresholds.

15 Min

Select 15 Min and click Show Thresholds to enter threshold information for a generation of 15-minute threshold-crossing alerts (TCAs).

1 Day

Select 1 Day and click Show Thresholds to enter threshold information for a generation of 1-day TCAs.

STS

Select the bullet and click Show Thresholds to display the synchronous transport signal (STS) termination thresholds.

VT

(Does not apply to all cards) Select the bullet and click Show Thresholds to display the Virtual Tributary (VT) termination thresholds.

Show Thresholds

Shows selected thresholds.

Port

Displays the port number.

CV

Sets the threshold for the number of coding violations. Coding violations are bit interleaved parity (BIP) errors that are detected in the incoming signal. The table cell is flagged in red when it exceeds the threshold.

ES

Sets the threshold for the number of errored seconds. An errored second is a one-second period with one or more coding violations at that layer or one or more incoming defects at that layer.

FC

(STS only) Sets the threshold for the failure count.

SES

Sets the threshold for the number of severely errored seconds. A severely errored second is a one-second period with x or more coding violations at that layer or one or more incoming defects at that layer. The value of x depends on the line rate and bit error rate (BER).

UAS

Sets the threshold for the unavailable seconds.

Apply

Applies changes made to the fields in the tab.

Reset

Cancels any changes to the tab and returns the fields to their last-saved settings.

Help

Displays context-sensitive help.
