Boot From SAN Introduction
The Boot from SAN function allows servers to use an external SAN volume as a the boot volume for the server. This removes the requirement that servers contain internal DAS drives. The benefits are:
- Reduced cost
- Easier transition to blade servers
- Improved server management and recovery
- Multiple boot images, centrally located, for easy backup, management, and restoration
To create a Boot from SAN volume, from the Storage Management menu, choose Volume > Create a Boot from SAN Volume. The Create Boot from SAN Volume window appears.
- Select a source volume. Click on Continue.
- The Name window appears. Enter the name to associate with the Boot from SAN copy. Click on Continue.
- The verification window appears. Click Create Now.
