RAID Rebalancing

Disks have been managed. RAID Rebalancing allows data in this disk folder to be spread evenly across all disks in the folder.

To rebalance RAID now, select Rebalance Now.

To schedule the rebalance process for later, select Schedule Rebalance.

If you are adding disks to allow for modification of the redundancy level of a storage tier, select Modify Storage to modify tier redundancy levels before starting RAID rebalancing.

What You Need to Know

Depending upon the amount of data on your system, RAID Rebalancing may take several days. RAID Rebalancing moves the lowest scoring RAID Devices first; beginning with the smallest RAID Devices. RAID Rebalancing takes longer when the system is running low on space, or when temporary devices must be created to allow for the replacement of existing devices. RAID Rebalancing has the potential to fail or deadlock when moving some RAID devices. If this occurs, it may be necessary to add more disk space to the system to allow RAID Rebalancing to complete.

See the Compellent User Guide for additional information and illustrations of RAID Rebalancing.
