Maximum initial copy activities
The maximum initial copy activities is the maximum number of pairs that can simultaneously perform an initial copy in the same storage system. You can specify the value between 1 and 512 for the total number of initial copy activities for GAD, TrueCopy, and TrueCopy for Mainframe . If an initial copy or differential copy of GAD, TrueCopy or TrueCopy for Mainframe is already in progress in the same storage system, and if you perform the copy operation for the GAD pairs, the value which is derived from the total amount of the copy activities of running GAD and TrueCopy subtracting from 512 is the number of copy activities which can be performed for the GAD pairs after this.
For example, if you set the maximum initial copy activities to 512, and if 400 GAD pairs are created during the initial copy operation for 400 TrueCopy pairs being performed, 112 GAD pairs (512-400 (the number of copy activities of TrueCopy which is in progress)) start to copy at the beginning. After that, the number of the running copy activities of GAD pairs gradually increases, not exceeding 512 which is the maximum number of initial copy activities, with progressing of the initial copy activities of TrueCopy, as shown in the following figure.
