Monitoring and maintenance
To maintain your system, you must know about monitoring, editing, and maintenance for external volumes, paths, and systems.

- Storage Virtualization
Controller-based storage virtualization dramatically simplifies the storage infrastructure by enabling the consolidation and aggregation of external heterogeneous storage resources in a single pool of enterprise storage capacity. Existing volumes and data on externally attached storage systems are discovered by Universal Volume Manager and presented through global cache as if they were on one system. Once virtualized behind the Hitachi storage system, external volumes gain access to all Hitachi storage services.

- Deleting an external volume mapping
If you no longer want to access data in an external volume, you can delete the mapping. When you do, the data in the external volume is not deleted.
- Reconnecting external systems and volumes
After you disconnect an external system or volumes, you must reconnect them before you can start using them again.
