Thin Image pairs

You can create an HTI pair with or without an S-VOL specified.

If hosts do not access snapshot data on a regular basis after storing it, you can create an HTI pair without specifying an S-VOL.

If hosts do access snapshot data on a regular basis after storing it, you must specify an S-VOL when you create an HTI pair.

HTI pairs use V-VOLs as secondary volumes. V-VOLs must be defined before HTI pairs are created. Up to 1,024 secondary volumes can be specified for one primary volume.

When creating an HTI pair, you need to specify the pool to be used for the pair. If multiple HTI pairs share the same primary volume, the pairs must also share the same pool. For example, if you specify three secondary volumes for one primary volume, you must specify the same pool for the three HTI pairs.

If you release an HTI pair, the volume status becomes SMPL. Immediately after a volume becomes SMPL, you cannot use the volume to create an HTI pair. If you want to create HTI pairs using SMPL volumes, you should wait for a while before creating the pairs. The wait time required depends on your system environment.
