Creating an LDEV changes the V-VOL to the pool-VOL’s paired volume. You register the V-VOLs as part of creating a V-VOL.
While creating an LDEV, you can use HDP to assign pool-VOLs to one or more parity groups.
Navigate to the Pools window.
In Hitachi Command Suite:
On the Resources tab, click Storage Systems, and then expand the storage system tree.
Expand the target storage system, right-click DP Pools, and then select System GUI.
In Device Manager - Storage Navigator:
In the Explorer pane, click Storage Systems, and then expand the storage system tree.
Click Pools.
In the Pools window, in the Pools tab, click Create LDEVs.
In the Create LDEVs window of the Create LDEVs wizard, complete or review the following items and then click Options:
Provisioning Type
Confirm that Snapshot is selected.
Required: Yes
Offset boundary
Specify if you want to offset the specified LDEV capacity by boundary.
Values: ON or OFF
Default: OFF
LDEV Capacity
Complete the following:
- Type the amount of the LDEV capacity you want to create.
Range: (Shown below the text box.)
Values: Decimals up to two decimal places.
- To change the capacity unit, click the unit capacity menu.
Default: TB, GB, MB, and block
Required: Yes
Number of LDEVs
Type the number of LDEVs you want to create.
Range: (Shown below the text box.)
Required: Yes
LDEV Name
Type a name for the V-VOL.
- For Prefix, type the alphanumeric characters, which become the fixed characters that precedes the V-VOL number.
Case-sensitive: Yes
- For Initial Number, type the initial number for V-VOL.
Limit: 9 digits
Character limit: 32
In the Create LDEVs window of the Create LDEVs wizard, complete the following additional items and then click Add:
For Initial LDEV ID, confirm that an LDEV identification number has been set. To confirm the used number and unavailable number, complete the following:
a. Click View LDEV IDs.
b. In the View LDEV IDs window, confirm the LDEV ID and then click Close.
For Cache Partition, select CLPR.
Required: No
MP Unit ID,
Complete one of the following:
- To assign a specific MP Unit ID that the LDEV will use, select the MP Unit ID.
- To assign an auto-generated MP Unit ID, click Auto.
The MP Unit ID that you can select depends on the Hitachi Virtual Storage Platform G200, G400, G600 model.
Required: No
The created LDEVs are added to the Selected LDEVs table.
Click Finish.

(Optional) Change the settings of the V-VOLs. You can complete the following:
To change the LDEV setting, click Change LDEV Settings.
Change the LDEV settings (see Changing LDEV settings).
In the Confirm window, complete the following.
Confirm the settings.
Enter a name for your task in Task Name.
(Optional) Select Go to tasks window for status if you want the Tasks window to open after you click Apply.
Click Apply.
The LDEV is created and registered, and if the Go to tasks window for status check box was selected, the Tasks window appears.
