Interoperability of DP-VOLs and pool-VOLs
DP-VOLs and pool-VOLs can be used in conjunction with other VSP G100, G200, G400, G600, G800 or VSP F400, F600, F800 products. The following table lists the operations that are permitted and not permitted.
Product name (Guide name) |
Permitted |
Not permitted |
|---|---|---|
Thin Image (Thin Image User Guide) |
Using a V-VOL as a Thin Image primary volume. The maximum total number of pools per storage system is 128. Thin Image pool limits are reduced by the number of Dynamic Provisioning pools, Dynamic Tiering pools, and active flash pools. |
Data Retention Utility (Provisioning Guide) |
Performing operations on DP-VOLs. |
Performing operations on DP pool-VOLs. Performing operations on an external volume of the data direct mapping attribute. Performing operations on an LDEV which has accelerated compression enabled. |
Global-active device ( global-active device User Guide) |
Using a DP-VOL as a global-active device P-VOL or S-VOL. |
LUN Manager (Provisioning Guide) LUN Security (Provisioning Guide) |
Performing operations on DP-VOLs. |
Performing operations on DP pool-VOLs. Performing operations on an external volume of the data direct mapping attribute. Performing operations on an LDEV which has accelerated compression enabled. |
ShadowImage (ShadowImage User Guide) |
Using a DP-VOL as a ShadowImage primary volume or secondary volume. |
TrueCopy (TrueCopy User Guide) |
Using a DP-VOL as a TrueCopy primary volume or secondary volume. |
Universal Replicator (Universal Replicator User Guide) |
Using a DP-VOL as a Universal Replicator primary volume, secondary volume, or journal volume. However, the journal volume must be a DP-VOL that has OPEN-V emulation type. |
Universal Volume Manager (Universal Volume Manager User Guide) |
Enabling volumes created by Universal Volume Manager to be used as pool-VOLs. |
Increasing the capacity of a DP-VOL mapped to the Universal Volume Manager. If you try to increase the capacity of a DP-VOL with the conventional LDEV operation, the capacity of the DP-VOL does not change. In this case, remove the mapping between DP-VOL and Universal Volume Manager, increase a capacity of the external volume used as a pool-VOL, then map between DP-VOL and the Universal Volume Manager again. |
Virtual LUN (Provisioning Guide) |
Registering Virtual LUN volumes in Dynamic Provisioning pools. |
Performing Virtual LUN operations on volumes that are already registered in a DP pool. |
Virtual Partition Manager (Performance Manager User Guide) |
Performing operations on DP-VOLs and pool-VOLs. |
Not applicable |
Volume Migration (Volume Migration User Guide) (For details, contact the Hitachi Solution Support Center.) |
Using a DP-VOL as a migration source or a migration target. |
Volume Shredder (Volume Shredder User Guide) |
Use on DP-VOLs. |
