Enabling accelerated compression on a parity group
Before you begin
You must have the Storage Administrator (Provisioning) role.
Set the drive type of the parity group to FMC.
The emulation type of the target parity group must be OPEN-V.
The RAID level and drive configuration of the target parity group must be accessible for use for pool volumes.
The target parity group must be in a storage system (an internal parity group).
The status of LDEVs in the target parity group must be Normal or Blocked.
The capacity of the defined internal volumes must be 8 GB or more. (The capacity is equal to or greater than the minimum capacity of a pool volume).
If the defined internal volumes are used as pool volumes, those pool volumes must belong to the same Dynamic Provisioning pool or Thin Image pool.
The defined internal volumes must have no LUN path definitions.
The defined internal volumes must not be used by Volume Migration.
The defined internal volumes must not be reserved by Data Retention Utility.
There must be no DP-VOL page reserved areas.
The defined internal volumes must not have the Protect attribute, the Read Only attribute, or the S-VOL Disable attribute of Data Retention Utility.
The encryption setting of the parity group must be disabled.
Procedure
Perform one of the following to display the parity group to be operated.
For Command Suite:
On the Resource tab, expand the Storage Systems tree. Click Parity Groups of the target storage system.
For Storage Navigator:
Perform (1) or (2) to display the Parity Groups tab:
(1) To display all parity groups in the storage system, in the storage system tree, select Parity Groups, then select the Parity Groups tab.
(2) To display parity groups related to Internal, in the storage system tree, expand Parity Groups, select Internal, then select the Parity Groups tab.
Select the target parity group.
Perform one of the following to display the Edit Parity Group window.
For Command Suite:
Select the parity group of the target, click Edit Parity Groups.
For Storage Navigator:
Select the parity group of the target.
To display the Edit Parity Groups window, perform one of the following:
(1) Click More Actions, then select Edit Parity Groups.
(2) Click Actions > Parity Group > Edit Parity Groups to open the window.
Select the check box for accelerated compression, and then check Enable.
When you enable accelerated compression, confirm that the data reduction efficiency can surely perform. For details, see Guidelines for creating a pool when accelerated compression is used .
Click Finish.
In the Confirm window, confirm the settings. In Task Name, type a unique name for this task or accept the default, then click Apply.
If Go to tasks window for status is checked, the Tasks window opens.
