Workflow for setting up external volumes

You must complete all planning and preparation tasks before beginning the Universal Volume Manager setup process. Before you begin setting up Universal Volume Manager, consult the planning workflow in the Universal Volume Manager User Guide to make sure you have completed all planning tasks.

Procedure

1. To edit mapping settings prior to the mapping operation, see External volume policy settings and functions. You can also make changes during the mapping operation or accept the default settings.

2. Map each external volume to an internal volume.

You can now read the existing data from the mapped internal volumes in the local storage system.

3. After the external volume is successfully mapped, use LUN Manager to define LU paths to hosts. For details, see the Virtual Storage Platform G200, G400, G600, G800 Provisioning Guide.
