Hi-Track Monitor

Help on Device Monitor Configuration

The Hi-Track Monitor's main function is to monitor the status of devices. This table controls the configuration of the monitor's device monitoring activities.

The SiteID must be defined - there is no default. The format allows any alpha-numeric characters (A-Z and 0-9), and must be 7 characters in length.
The monitor uses this identifier in all reports to Hi-Track.

The monitor will attempt to poll each device every Scan Interval seconds.

Data collected from the device is regarded as current data only if collected within the last Max Scan-Repeat Period seconds. If no data has been collected within this period, then the monitor will show the device as having a Communication Error.
Set to zero to disable this feature.

The Monitor will wait SNMP Timeout seconds for a response from an SNMP monitored device. If there is no response, then the request will be retried up to 5 times. There is usually no point in increasing the timeout value, but there may be some benefit to reducing it to 3 or 4 seconds.

Every day, the monitor will send a report of all monitored devices to Hi-Track - this report will be generated at the time of day specified by Daily Report.

The Hi-Track Monitor uses an internal Transport Agent to send reports to Hi-Track. If it fails to send its reports to Hi-Track, it will wait for Transport Retry Time seconds before retrying the transmission.
The Monitor will try Transport Retry Count times to send the data before it abandons the attempt.

Keep Log Files controls the number of log files retained by the Hi-Track Monitor. Log files older than the specified number of days will be deleted.

Communication Failure Report Delay will prevent reporting a communication failure for the specified number of seconds. The delay starts from the time of the last successful poll for each device. Set this period to longer than the Scan Interval to prevent at least one Communication Failure report.
If a Communication Failure is not reported due to this delay, then the Device Status will include the text (NoReport).

Report Communication Errors? controls the reporting of Communication Errors to users (via email) and to Hi-Track (via FTP or Dial-Up)

Hide IP addresses in Reports? controls the sending of IP addresses within Hi-Track Report files. If set to yes, then the IP address fields will be set to (hidden). Note that IP addresses contained within data retreived from a device will NOT be hidden.

Send Simple Trace on Device Error? applies only to some DF Storage products. If enabled, then Simple Trace data will be collected whenever an error is detected and sent to Hi-Track.

Keep Transported FilesThe Monitor will move files from the transport directory to a subdirectory (ftpDir-saved) after successful transport. They will be kept there for the indiicated number of days (plus one hour) and will then be deleted.
If this is set to 2 days, then the files will be kept for (2*24)+1 = 49 hours.
The transported files will not be saved if this parameter is set to zero.
