Remote Virtual Console

The page allows you to perform remote control.

Prerequisite

To use the remote virtual console, you must install a compatible operating system (OS), browser, and java running environment (JRE) on the client. For details, see Table 1.

Context

You can remotely monitor and manage servers, install and repair OSs, and install device drivers by using the following methods:

Use the local keyboard, video, and mouse (KVM) on the client to monitor and control remote devices in real time.
Use a server to access the local media on the client (the host of a customer) over a network in the mode of the virtual floppy disk drive (FDD) and virtual CD-ROM drive. From the view of the server, the operation method of the virtual FDD or virtual CD-ROM drive is the same as that of the physically inserted USB device.
NOTE:
The local media on the client can be an FDD, a CD-ROM drive, or a floppy disk image file or CD-ROM image file stored on the client or on the network drive.

Description

The remote virtual console displays the operating status of remote devices in real time. You can click icons to control remote devices. Table 2 describes the icons and their functions.

After you select , set up a virtual CD-ROM drive by using the local CD-ROM drive or CD-ROM image file on the client.
After you select , set up a virtual FDD by using the local FDD or floppy disk image file on the client.
After you select , make the floppy disk and CD-ROM image files by using the FDD and CD-ROM drive respectively.

Table 3 describes the function parameters.

Parameter	Description
CD-ROM drive	Select a CD-ROM drive to be virtualized on the client.
Image file	Enter or select the image file of the floppy disk or CD-ROM to be virtualized on the client.
Connect or disconnect	Install or remove a virtual media device on the server.
Eject or insert	Switch the floppy disk or CD-ROM virtualized by using an image file.
FDD	Select the FDD to be virtualized on the client.
Write protect	Enable or disable the write protect function. NOTE: The write protect function indicates that writing any information is not allowed. It is a protection mechanism to prevent important data from being changed or deleted.
Select a drive	Select the FDD or CD-ROM drive on the client.
Save path	Enter or select a path for storing an image file.
Start or stop	Start or stop making an image file.

CAUTION:

Services are interrupted during power-off, cold reset, or graceful reboot. Perform these operations with caution.

Click . The displayed menu contains Power On, Power Off, Cold Reset, Graceful Reboot, Video.

Power management involves powering on, powering off, cold reset, and graceful reboot.
NOTE:
- Power On: powers on a device.
- Power Off: powers off a device.
- Code Reset: performs cold reset on a device.
- Graceful Reboot: performs soft reset on the device, that is, performs log-off only.
Video: records a video for the current remote control screen.

NOTE:
The video file is in .rep format. You can play or edit it by choosing Diagnose and Location > Video Play.

NOTE:

On the toolbar, Num, Caps, and Scroll indicate the keyboard indicator status for a remote device.
In full screen mode, press Ctrl+Shift+Alt to show the toolbar on the top of the screen.
