Description

MGMD/3/IFLIMIT:OID [oid] Membership report message is discarded because the interface-specific IGMP or MLD group membership limitation is exceeded. (GroupAddressType=[integer], SrcAddr=[binary], GrpAddr=[binary], Interface=[integer], LimitCnt=[integer], InterfaceName=[string], InstanceName=[string])

New members failed to join the IGMP group of an interface because the number of IGMP entries of the interface reached the limit.

Impact on the System

After the number of entries of an interface reaches the limit, new members fail to join the interface-specific IGMP group, and corresponding entries cannot be established. Users in the shared network segment connected to the interface board where the current interface resides cannot receive the desired on-demand video programs.

Possible Causes

After the limit to the number of IGMP entries was set on an interface, when the number of interface-specific IGMP entries reached the limit, new members failed to join the IGMP group and the corresponding trap was generated.

Interface-specific IGMP entries include the (*,G) entries, (S,G) entries, and entries in the SSM-mapping table on the interface.

Procedure

Run the display igmp group interface interface-type interface-number verbose command to check whether the statistical number of IGMP entries on the interface is equal to or greater than the limit value.
- If so, go to Step 2.
- If not, go to Step 4.
Check the network status and judge whether more IGMP entries can be maintained on the interface of the network.
- If so, go to Step 3.
- If not, go to Step 5. This situation indicates that multicast services in the network are saturated and therefore no more IGMP entries can be added. You are advised to reduce multicast services or deploy a higher-performance device as an alternative to the current device.
Run the igmp limit number command in the interface view to increase the limit value of interface-specific IGMP entries. Then, check whether the trap persists.
- If so, go to Step 1.
- If not, go to Step 5.
Collect alarm information and configuration information, and then contact technical support personnel.
