Replacing a Metadata Disk Module (OceanStor Pacific 9920 Palm-sized NVMe SSD 25-Slot)

Impact on the System

If the system has heavy service loads, the replacement will increase the service response time. Therefore, perform the replacement during off-peak hours.

Prerequisites

The replacement disk module (spare part) has been prepared.
The faulty disk module has been located.

Precautions

When replacing a metadata disk, wait at least 30 seconds after it is removed before you insert a new one.
A node can remain in maintenance mode for 45 minutes. After that, you need to manually switch the node to the maintenance mode again.
To prevent replacement failures, ensure that the replacement metadata disk is free from obvious foreign objects, collision, and scratches.
To prevent replacement failures, ensure that the metadata disk slot is free from foreign objects or obvious damage before installing the metadata disk.
To prevent system faults, do not replace disk modules with ones that have been used before.
To prevent system faults, use the BOM code of the faulty disk module to apply for a replacement disk module.
Remove metadata disks in sequence. Remove one metadata disk completely before removing another.
Insert metadata disks in sequence. Insert one metadata disk completely before inserting another.

Procedure

Remove the front panel cover.
Press the release button on the right of the front panel cover, tilt the front panel cover by 20° to 30° forward, and move the front panel cover rightward to separate it from the groove on the left of the system subrack. Then, remove the front panel cover. See (1), (2), and (3) in Figure 1.

Remove the disk module.
- When removing disk modules, correctly record the slots where disk modules reside.
- The time from disk module removal to installation and restoration cannot exceed three minutes. Otherwise, the system will be faulty due to overtemperature.
1. Press the ejector release button on the disk module. The ejector lever automatically ejects. See (1) in Figure 2.

2. Hold the ejector lever of the disk module and pull out the disk module slowly. See (2) and (3) in Figure 2.
Put the removed metadata disk into an ESD bag.
Take the replacement metadata disk out of its ESD bag.
Install the disk module.

Ensure that disk modules are inserted into the same slots before and after the replacement. Otherwise, services may be affected.
1. Open the ejector lever completely and push the disk module into the node along the slot until it cannot move forward. See (1) in Figure 3.

2. Close the ejector lever of the disk module to push the disk module into the node with the force between the ejector lever and the node. See (2) in Figure 3.
Check the installation.
After inserting the disk module, wait 5 seconds and then check the disk module running indicator to determine whether the disk module has been successfully installed.
If the disk module running indicator is steady green, the disk module is successfully installed. In this case, go to the next step. Otherwise, the disk module fails to be installed and you need to perform the following operations to restore the installation:
1. Check whether the disk module has been firmly inserted. If not, wait 30 seconds and reinsert it.
2. If the disk module still fails to be installed after you reinsert it, the link of the disk slot may be faulty. In this case, contact technical support.
Install the front panel cover.
Align the latch on the left of the front panel cover with the groove on the left of the system subrack, and push the right of the front panel cover forward until you hear a click. Ensure that the front panel cover is fully secured to the system subrack. See (1) and (2) in Figure 4.

Follow-up Procedure

After the metadata disk is replaced, label it to facilitate subsequent operations.
