Replacing a System Disk Module (OceanStor A310)

System disk modules (M.2 SSDs) are used to boot operating systems.

Impact on the System

Prerequisites

Precautions

During the replacement of system disk modules, complete the following operations within ten minutes: Remove the node, remove and insert system disk modules, and install the node back into the system subrack. Otherwise, the heat dissipation of the storage device will be affected and the system will be faulty.

Tools and Materials

Procedure

  1. Remove the front panel cover.

Press the release button on the right of the front panel cover, tilt the front panel cover by 20° to 30° forward, and move the front panel cover rightward to separate it from the groove on the left of the system subrack. Then, remove the front panel cover. See (1), (2), and (3) in Figure 1.

  2. Remove the faulty node.

The time from node removal to installation and restoration cannot exceed ten minutes. Otherwise, the system will be faulty due to overtemperature.

    1. Press the release button on the node. The ejector levers of the node automatically eject. Fully raise the ejector levers. See (1) in Figure 2.

    2. Hold the ejector levers and slowly pull the node out of the system subrack. See (2) in Figure 2.

  3. Remove the node cover.

    1. Press the release button on the cover and push the cover outwards. See (1) and (2) in Figure 3.

    2. When the cover is completely loose, slowly remove it from the node.

  4. Remove the faulty disk module.

Press the latch that secures the disk module, tilt the disk module upwards by 20° to 30°, and remove the disk module. See (1) and (2) in Figure 4.

  5. Put the removed disk module into an ESD bag.
  6. Take the replacement disk module out of its ESD bag.
  7. Install the replacement disk module.

    1. Tilt the disk module by 20° to 30° and insert it into the slot.
    2. Press the latch of the disk module and the disk module at the same time until the disk module is secured by the latch. See (1) and (2) in Figure 5.

  8. Install the node cover.

Place the cover latch into the node slot, and align the cover with the node. Press the release button on the cover, and push the cover inwards. See (1) and (2) in Figure 6.

Push the cover into the node completely. See Figure 7.

  9. Install the faulty node.

    1. Press the release button on the node. The ejector levers eject automatically. Hold the ejector levers to maximize the angle, and push the node into the system subrack along the guide rails. See (1) and (2) in Figure 8.

    2. After pushing the node into the system subrack, reset the ejector levers until they click into place. This ensures that the node is completely locked into the system subrack. See (3) in Figure 8.
    3. Press the power button on the node to power on the node.

  10. Install the front panel cover.

Align the latch on the left of the front panel cover with the groove on the left of the system subrack, and push the right of the front panel cover forward until you hear a click. Ensure that the front panel cover is secured to the system subrack. See (1) and (2) in Figure 9.

Follow-up Procedure

After the system disk module is replaced, label it to facilitate subsequent operations.
