Case 1

This case is applicable to HP-UX 11i v1 and v2 operating systems.

HP-UX 11i v1 and v2 have native multipathing software LVM PVlinks.

Collecting HBA Timeout Parameters

  1. Run the command to obtain the H/W Path list of HBAs.

  2. Run the ioscan -funC disk command to obtain disk drive letters. Collect drive letters corresponding to H/W Path obtained in step 1, such as /dev/dsk/c23t0d1. Disks that do not correspond to H/W Path obtained in step 1 are not the disks mapped to HBAs. (A dot is added to the H/W Path to match drive letters, such as 1/0/10/1/0/4/0.)

  3. Run the vgdisplay -v | grep 'PV Name' command. Disks displayed in the command output have PVs created.

    Alternate Link indicates that the disk has redundant paths.

    Check whether the IO Timeout of the PV corresponding to each disk is 5s. If not, the check is not passed.

  4. Run the pvdisplay /dev/dsk/c23t0d1 command to obtain the value of IO Timeout (Seconds). The default value is default (30s). If the value is default or greater than 5, the check is not passed.

Error When Querying HBA Timeout Settings

If the timeout setting of an HBA does not pass the check, the error information is as follows:

(Disk path : dev/rdisk/disk2)(Timeout:120);
(Disk path : dev/rdisk/disk3)(Timeout:15)

Modifying LUN Timeout Settings

Run the pvchange –t X Ycommand to modify the timeout settings of a LUN. In the command, X indicates the timeout value and Y the LUN for which you want to modify the timeout setting. Check whether the modification is successful. As shown in the following figure, the timeout parameter is set to 5s.

Verifying the Modification of HBA Timeout Settings

The modification takes effect immediately but will become invalid after a restart. You can collect timeout parameters again for verification.
