Planned Migration and Switchback of Services in the Production Center

In scenarios where application resources and persistent volumes are replicated across clusters, if the production center encounters anticipated risks (such as power outage and routine O&M), you can perform planned migration on a specified recovery plan. The entire process is automatic without manual intervention. The DR site automatically takes over services.

After the planned migration is complete, you can perform re-protection on the recovery plan to reversely protect services taken over by the DR center.

Prerequisites

Procedure

  1. Perform the planned migration to migrate services from the production center to the DR center.

    1. On the menu bar, choose Utilization > Data Restore.
    2. Select the recovery plan used to perform planned migration, click More in the Operation area and then click Planned Migration.
    3. Perform planned migration based on protected object types.
      • When the protected object type is application resource:

        Optional: Select Post-hook.

        Click OK.

During planned migration, service loads related to application resources are disabled or deleted.

    • If the protected object type is Persistent Volume, click OK.

  2. After the migration is complete, verify that applications are started and data is consistent in the remote DR center.

    • If the application startup or data consistency is abnormal, contact Huawei technical support.
    • You can check data consistency by viewing the last entry of data written to the production and disaster recovery centers. If the last entry of data is the same, the data consistency is ensured.

  3. Check the environment before starting the reprotection.

Ensure that underlying storage links, remote replication pairs, and consistency groups have been recovered.

  4. Perform reprotection to protect services switched to the DR center.

After the planned migration is complete, the application system is working in the B (DR center) and protected groups become Invalid. In this case, you need to perform reprotection to recover the replication status and synchronize data from the DR center to the production center. Then, the original DR center becomes the new production center.

    1. On the menu bar, choose Utilization > Data Restore.
    2. Select the recovery plan with data to be reprotected, click More in the Operation area and then click Reprotection.
    3. In the confirmation dialog box that is displayed, carefully read the content and click OK.

After the reprotection is complete, if you plan to run services in the DR center for a long time, you do not need to perform 5 to 6.

  5. On eReplication of the DR center, perform planned migration.

Perform planned migration to switch services back from the DR center to the production center.

In the scenario where application resources are replicated across clusters, service loads related to application resources are disabled or deleted during planned migration.

  6. Perform reprotection on eReplication in the DR center.

After you complete planned migration, the application system is working in the production center and protected groups become Invalid. To ensure that the production center can be recovered from the DR center when an event (planned or unplanned) happens on it after switchback, reprotection must be performed and the replication status from it to the DR center must be established again to synchronize data and ensure services are protected.

For details, see 3 to 4.

Operation Results

After the reprotection is complete, the protected group becomes normal.
