Creating a DRS Rule Mapping

Prerequisites

Resource mappings have been created.

Context

DRS rules exist in FusionCompute of FusionSphere. Therefore, you need to create DRS rule mappings.

  • A DRS group at a production site or DR site can be mapped to only one DRS group of the same type.
  • Supports only the Geo-Redundant DR Solution
  • DRS rule-based DR is not supported for VM templates.

Procedure

  1. On the menu bar, click Resources.
  2. In the navigation tree, select the site where resource mappings have been created and click FusionSphere.
  3. On the Cluster Mapping tab page, select the resource mapping for which you want to add a DRS mapping.
  4. Click > Add DRS mapping. The Add DRS mapping dialog box is displayed. Set the DRS mapping.

    Parameter

    Description

    DRS Rule

Specifies the DRS rule group. You can select a VM group, rule group, or balancing group.

    Rule Group Type

This parameter is displayed only when Rule Group is selected for DRS Rule.

    • Keep VMs together: This rule keeps the selected VMs always running on the same host. One VM can be added to only one keep-VMs-together rule group.
    • Keep VMs mutually exclusive: This rule keeps the selected VMs running on different hosts. One VM can be added to only one VM-mutually-exclusive rule group.
    • VMs to hosts: This rule associates a VM group with a host group so that the VMs in the specified VM group can be configured to run only on the specified host in the host group.
    • VMs to VMs: Set the dependency between the two VM groups and specify the low-priority VM groups to depend on the high-priority VM groups. When VMs are started in batches, VMs in the high-priority VM group are started first.

    Rule Group Rule

This parameter is displayed only when Rule Group is set to VMs to hosts .

    • Must run on hosts in group: VMs in the VM group must run on hosts in the host group.
    • Should run on host group: VMs in a VM group should (but not necessarily) run on hosts in the host group.
    • Must not run on hosts in group: VMs in a VM group cannot run on hosts in the host group.
    • Should not run on hosts in group: VMs in a VM group should not (but can) run on hosts in the host group.

  5. Select the production site group and DR site group and add mappings.
  6. Click OK.
