Creating a Protected Group for FusionCompute VMs

Create a protected group for FusionCompute VMs that need DR protection. After the protected group is created, the system automatically matches suitable protection policies for the protected group.

Prerequisites

Precautions

Restrictions and Limitations

A protected group can contain only one FusionCompute VM.

Procedure

  1. On the menu bar, choose Protection.
  2. Click Create.
  3. Select the protected object.

    1. Set Production Site, FusionSphere, and Protection Type. Select a proper protection type based on the used DR technology.

If the datastore where the VMs managed by FusionCompute reside uses only the HA DR technology, select HA.

The HyperMetro technology of storage arrays is used for protection. Service data is written to two data centers in real time.

    2. Select the production storage.

After selecting the HA protection type, select the production storage where the VMs to be protected reside, and move the VMs to be protected from the Available VMs list to the Selected VMs list.

A maximum of 200 VMs can be added to the selected VM list at a time.

    3. Select a VM in the Selected VMs list and click Set Suspension Time to set the VM suspension time.

The suspension time ranges from 1 to 14400.

  4. Click Next.
  5. Set Protection Policy.

    1. On the Protection Policy page, the system automatically matches supported protection policies. Select a protection policy based on your data protection solution.

When the HA DR technology is used, select High availability: HA DR Solution from the matched protection policies.

      • If there are matched protection policies, you can select a protection policy based on your data protection solution and modify the execution policy of the protection policy.
      • If there are no matched protection policies, check whether the storage devices used by protected objects have been configured as planned. If the storage devices have not been configured, configure them as planned. On the menu bar, select Resources, choose the site on the management server and under the site node, click Storage. Click Refresh in the operation button area of the modified storage device to refresh the storage device information. Refresh the FusionCompute or FusionManager information too and recreate a protected group.
    2. Set the HA target storage. Click Set.

On the Set HA Target Storage page, set the HA target storage. Table 1 describes related parameters.

Table 1 HA target storage parameters

      Parameter

      Description

      Site

Select the DR site for which you want to configure DR protection.

      DR Storage

Select the DR storage that has been added to the DR site.

      Production Replication Cluster

Select the replication cluster corresponding to the production storage.

      DR Replication Cluster

Select the replication cluster corresponding to the DR storage.

      HyperMetro Domain

The value is automatically generated after you select a production replication cluster and a DR replication cluster.

When you set a non-preferred HyperMetro storage pool for each preferred HyperMetro storage pool, one preferred HyperMetro storage pool can correspond to only one non-preferred HyperMetro storage pool.

  6. Click Next.
  7. Set Name and Description of the protected group.

    • Name: contains 4 to 32 characters, including letters, digits, underscores (_), and hyphens (-), but cannot start with a hyphen (-).
    • Description: contains 0 to 255 characters.

  8. Click Finish.
  9. Click OK.
