This section describes the positioning, highlights, and software architecture of UltraVR.
In current enterprise IT systems, more and more applications that provide critical services need to be protected by the disaster recovery (DR) mechanism. With the development of cloud-based IT systems, an increasing number of VMs also require DR protection. The IT systems face the following challenges:
UltraVR guides you through the DR service configuration step by step, visualizes the DR service process, and provides unified DR management of FusionCompute VMs.
UltraVR is designed to manage DR services of data centers for enterprises. Its high application-aware capability and the value-added features of Huawei storage products ensure service consistency during DR, simplify DR service configuration, support the monitoring of DR service status, and facilitate data recovery and DR tests.
Adopts an application-based management method and guides you through the DR service configuration step by step. It supports one-click DR tests, planned migration, failover, and reprotection.
By graphically displaying physical topologies of global DR and logical topologies of service protection, UltraVR enables you to easily manage the entire DR process. The status of protected groups and recovery plans is clear.
UltraVR integrates storage resource management and can be used in various application scenarios, such as active-passive DR, geo-redundant DR, and HyperMetro DC, reducing the O&M cost and improving the O&M efficiency.
UltraVR ensures that the applications and data at the DR site are consistent with those at the production site. After the production site fails, the DR site immediately takes over services from the DR site, ensuring business continuity. The multi-site deployment improves the reliability of the DR service management system. UltraVR backs up management data automatically so that the management system can be recovered rapidly if a disaster occurs.
UltraVR is designed to protect FusionCompute VMs and help recover data when disasters occur. FusionCompute supports array-based replication, host-based replication and Storage HyperMetro, providing VM-level DR protection for virtualization environments. Adopting the browser/server (B/S) architecture, UltraVR allows you to use a browser to manage DR. Figure 1 shows the UltraVR software architecture.
UltraVR has three subsystems:
Installed on a DR management server server, the UltraVR UI provides a GUI to manage DR services. With this subsystem, you can perform routine management, such as configuration, maintenance, and changes.
Installed on a DR management server, the UltraVR provides DR service process control, DR policy scheduling, and configuration data management of DR resources and services.
