Checking the FusionCompute VM Environment

Before configuring the DR service, check whether the FusionCompute environment and the storage environment meet the requirements. If the environments do not meet requirements, adjust the environments in time.

Common Check Items

In a FusionCompute VM environment, FusionCompute must be able to create datastores using the storage resources provided by Huawei Distributed Block Storage and create VMs, and provide cluster, host, and port group resources externally. In addition, FusionCompute must have interconnection users.

  1. Check and configure the FusionCompute environment.

After FusionCompute is installed, you need to configure the environment, including clusters and hosts in FusionCompute, connections between FusionCompute and storage arrays, and network resources in FusionCompute.

All the following configurations are basic configurations of FusionCompute. For details, see the FusionSphere Virtualization Suite Product Documentation.

    1. Check the FusionCompute cluster or host configuration.
      1. Log in to FusionCompute as the administrator account.
      2. Check whether cluster or host resources are available. If the file does not exist, create it.

If you want to use a cluster for resource management, ensure that there are available hosts in the cluster.

    2. Check the configurations of FusionCompute and storage arrays.
      1. Log in to FusionCompute as the administrator account.
      2. Check whether any Huawei Distributed Block Storage storage device is available. If the storage resource does not exist, add the storage resource.
      3. In the host resource configuration item of FusionCompute, select the associated network port as planned and complete the connection configuration to add the service port and ensure that the storage device can communicate with FusionCompute services.

  2. Check the FusionCompute interconnection user.

    1. Log in to FusionCompute as the administrator account.
    2. Check whether Interface interconnection user exists. If no such user exists, create one and ensure that roles of administrator are selected.

  3. Check whether a datastore has been created on FusionCompute.

When creating a datastore, use a virtualized method and ensure that formatting has been performed.

    1. Log in to FusionCompute as the administrator account.
    2. Check whether a datastore has been created. If no datastore is created, perform the following steps to create one.
    3. Click Add Data Store. The Add Data Store page is displayed.
    4. Select Huawei Distributed Block Storage as the storage resource type and create a datastore.

  4. Check whether a FusionCompute VM has been created.

    1. Log in to FusionCompute as the administrator account.
    2. Choose Resource Pools > Cluster > Host and check whether VMs that require DR protection have been created. If the datastore has not been created, select a proper custom datastore to create a VM as prompted.

Ensure that the datastore used by the VM for DR protection is Huawei distributed block storage.

Check Items of Storage Systems

FusionCompute VMs describes the requirements of each DR technology for the storage environment.

Table 1 Storage environment requirements of DR technologies

DR Technology

Requirements

HA

  • Check whether the datastores used by the VMs that require DR protection are provided by Huawei storage devices.
  • Check whether Huawei storage devices used by VMs that require DR protection meet HA networking requirements.
  • Plan VMs that need DR protection on the same datastore if possible.
  • If a datastore cannot support sufficient VMs that require DR, plan the VMs that require DR on datastores corresponding to different storage pools of the same storage array.
