Creating a Volume

The storage space of a newly created storage pool cannot be identified by an application server. An application server can use the storage space of a storage pool only after the storage space is logically divided into multiple volumes and the volumes are mapped to hosts or host groups.

Procedure

  1. Choose Resources > Resources > Volume > Volume.
  2. Select a desired account from the Account drop-down list in the upper left corner.
  3. Click Create.

The Create Volume page is displayed.

  4. Set parameters for the volume.

    Table 1 describes related parameters.

    Table 1 Volume parameters

    Parameter

    Description

    Name

Name of a newly created volume.

    NOTE:
    • The name must be unique.
    • The name can contain only letters, digits, underscores (_), hyphens (-), and periods (.).
    • The name contains 1 to 95 characters.

    Capacity

    Size of a volume.

    NOTE:

    Storage system capacity equation: 1 PB = 1,024 TB, 1 TB = 1,024 GB, 1 GB = 1,024 MB, 1 MB = 1,024 KB, 1 KB = 1,024 bytes.

    Quantity

Number of the newly created volumes.

    NOTE:
    • The value ranges from 1 to 1000.
    • The capacities of volumes created in a batch are the same.

    Start No.

Start No. of the newly created volumes.

    NOTE:
    • This parameter is mandatory when the number of created volumes is greater than 1. From the specified start number, the system incrementally appends a suffix number to the name of each volume for volume distinction.
    • The value of the start number ranges from 0 to (10,000 – Number of volumes created in the batch). For example, if you want to create 300 volumes in a batch, the value range of the start number is 0 to 9700.

    Storage Pool

Storage pool to which a newly created volume belongs.

    NOTE:

You can click Create to create a storage pool.

    QoS Policy

    QoS policy of a volume.

    NOTE:

You can click Create to create a QoS policy.

  5. Click Advanced to configure the data encryption function for the volume.

    Table 2 describes related parameters.
    Table 2 Data encryption parameters

    Parameter

    Description

    Data Encryption

Whether to enable the data encryption function. After this function is enabled, the system generates a data key to encrypt the data written to the volume.

    NOTE:
    • To use the data encryption function, you need to import an advanced license.
    • Volume data encryption can be configured only during volume creation and cannot be disabled once it is enabled. Before enabling volume data encryption, enable data encryption for the account.
    • After data encryption is enabled, the I/O performance of non-encrypted services will be affected. Confirm that this function needs to be enabled.

    Encryption Algorithm

After Data Encryption is enabled, you need to select an encryption algorithm. The value can be XTS-AES-128, XTS-AES-256, or XTS-SM4.

    NOTE:
    • The encryption algorithm can be configured only during volume creation and cannot be modified after that.
    • XTS-SM4 can be selected only after a license supporting the SM algorithm is imported.
    • XTS-SM4 is supported only in the Chinese mainland.

  6. Click OK.
  7. Confirm your operation as prompted.
