Creating a Clone

This section describes how to create a clone for a source volume or snapshot volume. After a clone is created, you can perform operations on the clone volume for multiple times without changing data in the source volume or snapshot volume.

Procedure

  1. Choose Resources > Resources > Volume > Volume.
  2. Select the desired account from the Account drop-down list in the upper left corner.
  3. Click on the right of the desired volume and select Create Clone.

The Create Clone page is displayed.

  4. Set the clone name.

    • The name must be unique.
    • The name can contain only letters, digits, underscores (_), hyphens (-), and periods (.).
    • The name contains 1 to 95 characters.

  5. (Optional) Select the snapshot for which you want to create a clone.

    • You can click Create to create a snapshot for the selected volume.
    • If you do not select a snapshot, a clone will be created for the source volume. The clone of the source volume cannot be reconstructed.

  6. Configure the number of clone volumes to be created in a batch.

    • The number of volumes that can be created in a batch ranges from 1 to 1000.
    • The capacities of clone volumes created in a batch are the same.
    • The total capacity of clone volumes created in a batch is less than or equal to the available capacity of the storage pool.

  7. If the quantity of clone volumes is greater than 1, set the start number of clone volumes to be created in a batch. From the specified start number, the system incrementally appends a suffix number to the name of each clone volume for clone volume distinction.

The value of the start number ranges from 0 to (10,000 – Number of volumes created in the batch). For example, if you want to create 300 clone volumes in a batch, the value range of the start number is 0 to 9700.

  8. Click OK.
  9. Confirm your operation as prompted.
