Creating a Snapshot Schedule

A snapshot schedule automatically creates snapshots based on a user-defined schedule policy to flexibly and frequently generate multiple recovery points for data on storage devices, ensuring fast data recovery.

Prerequisites

Namespaces and dtrees configured with compression policies cannot be added to snapshot schedules.

Procedure

  1. Choose Data Protection > Plans > Snapshot Schedule > Schedule.
  2. Select the desired account from the Account drop-down list in the upper left corner.
  3. Click Create.

The Create Snapshot Schedule page is displayed.

  4. Set basic information about the snapshot schedule.

    Table 1 describes the parameters.

Table 1 Basic parameters of a snapshot schedule

    Parameter

    Description

    Name

    Name of the snapshot schedule.

    NOTE:
    • The name must not be empty and must be unique.
    • The name can contain only letters, digits, underscores (_), periods (.), and hyphens (-).
    • The name can contain 1 to 255 characters.

    Description

    Description of the snapshot schedule.

    NOTE:

The value can be left blank or contain up to 255 characters.

  5. Add members to the snapshot schedule.

    • On the Namespace tab page, select desired namespaces for which you want to create a snapshot schedule. They will be automatically added to the right pane.
    • On the Dtree tab page, select an owning namespace and then desired dtrees for which you want to create a snapshot schedule. They will be automatically added to the right pane.

Namespaces and dtrees can be added to the same snapshot schedule.

  6. Click Next.
  7. Set an execution policy for the snapshot schedule based on service requirements.

The storage system supports four configuration modes, which can be executed concurrently.

    • Create scheduled snapshots based on a fixed period.
      1. Set a fixed period.
        • If you set the schedule by hour, the value ranges from 1 to 24. By default, the snapshot schedule is executed every hour.
        • If you set the schedule by minute, the value ranges from 60 to 1440.
      2. In the Retention Policy area, set a retention policy for scheduled snapshots. You can set either a retention period or the number of objects you want to retain.
        • Retain For

In this area, you can set a retention period for scheduled snapshots. The value must be an integral multiple of the fixed period.

        • Retained Objects

In this area, you can set the number of snapshots to be retained for each member in the snapshot schedule. The value ranges from 1 to 4096.

You do not need to set Retain For and Retained Objects simultaneously. Because once you set one parameter, the system will automatically calculate the value of the other parameter.

    • Create scheduled snapshots at specified time points every day.
      1. Set the time points at which the snapshot schedule is executed every day. The value ranges from 00:00 to 23:59 in the time zone where the storage device is located.
      2. In Retained Objects per Member, set the number of snapshots to be retained for a single member in the snapshot schedule. The value ranges from 1 to 256.
    • Create scheduled snapshots at specified time points every week.
      1. Set the time points at which the snapshot schedule is executed every week. The value ranges from 00:00 on Monday to 23:59 on Sunday in the time zone where the storage device is located.
      2. In Retained Objects per Member, set the number of snapshots to be retained for a single member in the snapshot schedule. The value ranges from 1 to 256.
    • Create scheduled snapshots at specified time points every month.
      1. Set the time points at which the snapshot schedule is executed every month. The value ranges from 00:00 on the first day of each month to 23:59 on the last day of each month in the time zone where the storage device is located.
      2. In Retained Objects per Member, set the number of snapshots to be retained for a single member in the snapshot schedule. The value ranges from 1 to 256.

  8. Click Next.

The information summary page is displayed.

  9. Determine whether to turn on the Enable Now switch to start the snapshot schedule immediately.
  10. Confirm information about the snapshot schedule to be created and click OK.
  11. Confirm your operation as prompted.
