Time Settings

Context

• NTP is a protocol that synchronizes the time of a computer system to Universal Time Coordinated (UTC). Servers that support NTP are called NTP servers.
• To synchronize the time with a client is to change the storage system time to be the same as the client time.
• Automatic NTP synchronization uses an NTP server as an external time source to automatically and periodically synchronize the time to a device.

Procedure

1. Choose Settings > Time Settings.
2. Click Modify and set the device time.

   Use one of the following three methods to set the device time:

   • Synchronizing with the client time
     1. Select Synchronize with client time.
     2. Specify Client Time Zone, which is the time zone where the current client resides.
   • Manual change
     1. Select Change manually.
     2. In Time After Change, set the device time and time zone.
     

     Set the correct time and time zone. Otherwise, the time recorded in alarms or logs may be different from the actual time, affecting fault locating.

   • Setting automatic NTP synchronization
     1. Select Synchronize with NTP server time.
     2. In NTP Server Address, enter the IPv4 or IPv6 address of the NTP server.
        

        • You are advised to use an independent NTP server other than the storage system. Otherwise, time synchronization may be abnormal.
        • A maximum of three NTP servers can be added. If the time of one NTP server cannot be automatically synchronized to the device, the system attempts to synchronize the time of another NTP server to the device. If all NTP servers added on the page are faulty, the system time will be synchronized to the device.
        • When adding an NTP server, if the system has been configured with other NTP servers and times on such NTP servers are different, the time synchronization function will be in disorder. Ensure that times on all NTP servers are the same.
        • Ensure that the IP address type of an NTP server is the same as that of a management node.
     3. (Optional) Click Test.
     4. (Optional) Select Enable next to NTP Authentication.
        

        Only when NTPv4 or later is used, NTP authentication can be enabled to authenticate the NTP server and automatically synchronize the time to the storage device.

     5. Select the time zone where the device is located from the Client Time Zone drop-down list box.

3. Click Save and confirm your operation as prompted.
