Setting a Mode

This section describes how to set and modify the SmartTakeover mode of a namespace. Different SmartTakeover modes determine the form of a gateway cluster formed by a storage cluster.

Procedure

  1. Choose Resources > Resources > Namespace.
  2. Select a desired account from the Account drop-down list in the upper left corner.
  3. Click a desired namespace name to go to the details page. Click the SmartTakeover tab.
  4. Click Set Mode.

The Configure SmartTakeover Mode page is displayed on the right.

  5. Set the SmartTakeover mode. Table 1 describes related parameters.

Namespaces with SmartTakeover enabled do not support dtree, snapshot, asynchronous replication, and SmartIndexing.

Table 1 Parameter description of the SmartTakeover modes

    SmartTakeover Mode

    Description

    Default

The default mode is set by default after a namespace is created, indicating that SmartTakeover is disabled. The namespace in default mode provides only the storage services and does not provide the metadata gateway function.

    Full forwarding

If SmartTakeover is enabled, a namespace in full forwarding mode can take over only one storage cluster and functions as a proxy to forward all service requests to the managed storage cluster. The namespace itself does not provide storage services.

    Local first

If SmartTakeover is enabled, a namespace in local first mode can take over only one storage cluster and functions as a proxy to forward specified service requests to the managed storage cluster based on user configurations. In addition, the namespace itself provides storage services.

    Local federation

If SmartTakeover is enabled, a namespace in local federation mode can take over one or more storage clusters and functions as a proxy to forward specified service requests to one or more specified managed storage clusters based on user configurations. In addition, the namespace itself provides storage services.

    Gateway federation

If SmartTakeover is enabled, a namespace in gateway federation mode can take over one or more storage clusters and functions as a proxy to forward all requests to one or more specified managed storage clusters based on user configurations. The namespace itself does not provide storage services.

a: The current SmartTakeover mode can be modified to the target SmartTakeover mode.

b: The current SmartTakeover mode cannot be modified to the target SmartTakeover mode.

c: The current SmartTakeover mode is the same as the target SmartTakeover mode and does not need to be modified.

    NOTE:

The gateway federation mode cannot coexist with the full forwarding mode, local first mode, and local federation mode.

  6. Click OK.
