Creating an Initiator

After an initiator is configured for an application server, you need to create a logical host and an initiator (from the iSCSI IQN of the application server) on DeviceManager of the storage system and associate the logical host with the iSCSI initiator.

Prerequisites

An initiator has been configured on an application server.

Procedure

  1. Choose Resources > Access > Host > Initiator.
  2. Select a desired account from the Account drop-down list in the upper left corner.
  3. Click Create.

The Create Initiator page is displayed.

  4. Enter the iSCSI Qualified Name (IQN) of an iSCSI initiator on the desired application server.

    • The IQN must contain 4 to 223 characters.
    • The IQN can contain only letters, digits, underscores (_), hyphens (-), periods (.), and colons (:).
    • The IQN must start with a letter or underscore (_).
    • The IQN must be the same as that on the application server. The IQN must be unique. Do not configure the initiators of multiple application servers with the same IQN.

  5. Select Enable CHAP Authentication, click Add, and select the CHAP to be used. To ensure storage device security, you are advised to enable CHAP authentication.

After selecting Enable CHAP Authentication and specifying CHAP Name, you must configure the same CHAP name and password on the application server.

  6. Click OK.
  7. Confirm your operation as prompted.
