Consistency Split of SmartMigration splits multiple related pairs at the same time to ensure data consistency at different points in time before and after the splitting. It is applicable to scenarios where data is stored in multiple different associated volumes. In this scenario, using Split cannot ensure that information in each volume at each point in time is associated. If data in certain volumes is missing, data in other volumes will become invalid.
Prerequisites
- SmartMigration pairs have been created.
- Running Status of the SmartMigration pairs is Normal.
- Run the change global_config general name=vbs_hgi_client_upgrade value=2 command as user admin to set the switchover flag of the managed VBS client to split state.
If the value of vbs_hgi_client_upgrade is 2, consistency splitting can be performed for the pairs but online rollback is not supported.
Precautions
- After a SmartMigration pair is split, write requests sent by production hosts to the source eDevVolume will no longer be synchronized to the target volume.
- After a SmartMigration pair is split, the target volume cannot be accessed. You are advised to delete the target volume when deleting the pair.
Procedure
- Choose Resources > Tuning > SmartMigration.
- Select desired pairs and click Consistency Split.
The Perform Consistency Splitting page is displayed.
- Select desired pairs from the Available Pairs area. They will be automatically added to the Selected Pairs area.
- Click OK.
- Confirm your operation as prompted.
Follow-up Procedure
Run the upgrade external_vbs_client finish command to finish switching VBS online. After this command is executed, VBS cannot be rolled back.
