After a remote device and a quorum server are configured, you need to create a HyperMetro domain based on the remote device and add the quorum server to the HyperMetro domain. When creating a HyperMetro domain, determine the relationships among the local device, remote device, and quorum server in the domain.
Prerequisites
A replication cluster has been configured and at least one remote device has been added.
Context
- A HyperMetro domain is a collection of remote and local devices and a quorum server. Using a HyperMetro domain, you can determine the relationships among the local device, remote device, and quorum server (optional) in the domain.
- A remote device provides HyperMetro services in a HyperMetro domain. When initial synchronization is implemented for HyperMetro, the remote device serves as the standby end for initial data synchronization.
- If you select the quorum server mode, the local and remote devices and a quorum server form device relationships in a HyperMetro. You need to create a quorum server for the local device and remote device. The arbitration function provided by the quorum server determines which devices can be accessed by hosts during a HyperMetro failure.
- A quorum server is a quorum device configured for a HyperMetro domain. When a fault occurs on a device or link, the quorum server can provide arbitration services to determine which site continues to provide services. If a quorum service is not configured in a HyperMetro domain or a fault occurs, the preferred site continues to provide services by default. If a quorum server is configured in a HyperMetro domain and a fault occurs, the quorum server by default uses a series of arbitration measures to determine the root cause and decides which site continues to provide services.
- This operation is only performed on the local storage system.
- After creating a HyperMetro domain, you can create HyperMetro pairs or consistency groups in the domain.
Precautions
If the quorum server mode has been configured, the system automatically switches the arbitration mode based on the connection between the quorum server and devices in the HyperMetro domain. The policy is as follows:
- If two devices in the HyperMetro domain are properly connected, but the quorum server is disconnected from the two devices (query the quorum server status on the two devices, and results show that the quorum server is offline), the system automatically switches from the quorum server mode to the static priority arbitration mode.
- If two devices in the HyperMetro domain are properly connected, and the quorum server recovers the connection from either storage device (query the quorum server status on at least one device, and the result describes that the quorum server is online), the system automatically switches from the static priority arbitration mode to the quorum server mode.
Procedure
- Choose Data Protection > Configuration > HyperMetro Domain.
- Click Create.
The Create HyperMetro Domain page is displayed.
- Set Name of the HyperMetro domain.
- The name must be unique.
- The name contains 1 to 31 characters.
- The name can contain letters, digits, underscores (_), hyphens (-), periods (.), and characters in various languages, but cannot start with an underscore (_), hyphen (-), or period (.).
- Select a quorum mode.
- Quorum server
- In the Remote Device area, select a remote device that you want to add to the HyperMetro domain.
- Click Please select a quorum server and select a quorum server that you want to add to the HyperMetro domain.
If there is no quorum server in the system, choose Data Protection > Configuration > Quorum Server to create one.
- Static priority
In the Remote Device area, select a remote device that you want to add to the HyperMetro domain.
- You are advised to configure quorum servers.
- If no quorum server is configured, when the preferred site is faulty, the non-preferred site cannot automatically take over HyperMetro services. As a result, the services stop and you need to forcibly start the non-preferred site to provide services for the host.
- If you want to add the quorum server subsequently, modify the HyperMetro domain to add it.
- Click OK.
