Creating a Quota

By creating a quota, you can control and collect statistics of space usage and file quantity of file systems or dtrees.

Prerequisites

Procedure

  1. Choose Services > File Service > Quota > Custom Quotas.
  2. Click Create.

The Create Quota page is displayed.

  3. Select the file system and dtree for which you want to create a quota from the File System and Dtree drop-down lists, respectively.

If the Dtree parameter is not specified, the created quota takes effect for the selected file system. If All dtrees is selected, the created directory quota takes effect for all dtrees in the selected file system. The quota of each dtree in it is limited separately.

  4. In Quota Type, select a quota type. Possible options are Directory quota, User quota, and User group quota.

    • Directory quota
    • User quota
      1. Click Select.

The Select User page is displayed.

      2. Select the users for which you want to create a quota.
        • If you select All users, the quota controls the space usage or file quantity of each user in the system.
        • If you select Specified users, the quota controls the space usage or file quantity of each specified user. To add a user, click Add. On the Add User page that is displayed, select a user type and select the desired users. Then, click OK.
          • If you set User Type to Local authentication user, select the users to be added in the list below.
          • If you set User Type to LDAP domain user or NIS domain user, enter the user names in the Name text box.
          • To remove added users, click Remove on the right of a desired user, or select one or more desired users and click Remove.
        • If you select Specified user groups, the quota controls the space usage or file quantity of each user in the specified user groups. To add a user group, click Add. On the Add User Group page that is displayed, select a user group type and select the desired user groups. Then, click OK.
          • If you set User Group Type to Local authentication user group, select the user groups to be added in the list below.
          • If you set User Group Type to LDAP domain user group or NIS domain user group, enter the user group names in the Name text box.
          • To remove added user groups, click Remove on the right of a desired user group, or select one or more desired user groups and click Remove.
      3. Click OK.
    • User group quota
      1. Click Select.

The Select User Group page is displayed.

      2. Select the user groups for which you want to create a quota.
        • If you select All user groups, the quota controls the space usage or file quantity of each user group in the system.
        • If you select Specified user groups, the quota controls the space usage or file quantity of each specified user group.
      3. Click OK.

  5. Set quota parameters. Table 1 describes related parameters.

    Table 1 Quota parameters

    Parameter

    Description

    Hard Quota

Indicates the space hard quota. If the quota is reached, the system immediately forbids writes and generates an alarm.

    [Value range]

    1 MB to 256 PB

The value must be greater than those of Soft Quota and Advisory Quota.

    Soft Quota

Indicates the space soft quota. If the quota is reached, the system generates an alarm but still allows writes. If the soft quota grace period elapses or hard quota is reached, the system immediately forbids writes.

    [Value range]

    1 MB to 256 PB

The value must be greater than that of Advisory Quota and less than that of Hard Quota.

    Advisory Quota

Indicates the space advisory quota. If the quota is reached, the system generates an alarm but still allows writes.

    [Value range]

    1 MB to 256 PB

The value must be less than those of Soft Quota and Hard Quota.

    Collect Snapshot Space Statistics

Indicates whether to collect statistics of the snapshot space included in the used file space.

    NOTE:

This parameter is available only when Quota Type is set to Directory quota.

    Hard Quota (K)

Indicates the file quantity hard quota. If the quota is reached, new files cannot be added. Operations on existing files are not affected. The unit is thousands.

    [Value range]

    1 to 2,000,000

The value must be greater than those of Soft Quota (K) and Advisory Quota (K).

    Soft Quota (K)

Indicates the file quantity soft quota. If the quota is reached, the system generates an alarm but new files can still be added. If the soft quota grace period elapses or hard quota is reached, new files cannot be added. The unit is thousands.

    [Value range]

    1 to 2,000,000

The value must be greater than that of Advisory Quota (K) and less than that of Hard Quota (K).

    Advisory Quota (K)

Indicates the file quantity advisory quota. If the quota is reached, the system generates an alarm but new files can still be added.

    [Value range]

    1 to 2,000,000

The value must be less than those of Soft Quota (K) and Hard Quota (K).

    Soft Quota Grace Period (Days)

If the used file space or number of files reaches the soft quota, the system generates an alarm but still allows writes or new files can still be added within this period. If this period elapses, the system immediately forbids writes and new files cannot be added.
