Creating a Snapshot Clone

After creating a snapshot clone, you can use the clone to concurrently generate multiple physical copies of the source snapshot. The copied data can be independently operated for multiple times without affecting the data in the source snapshot.

Procedure

  1. Choose Data Protection > Block Protection > Snapshot.
  2. Click More on the right of the desired snapshot and select Create Clone.

    The Create Clone page is displayed.

  3. Set basic clone parameters. Table 1 describes related parameters.

    Parameter

    Description

    Name

    Indicates the name of the clone.

    [Value range]

    • The name must be unique.
    • The name can contain only letters, digits, underscores (_), and hyphens (-).
    • The name contains 1 to 95 characters.

    Snapshot Name

    Indicates the name of the snapshot.

    Source Volume Name

    Indicates the name of the source volume.

    Quantity

    Indicates the number of created snapshot clones.

    Start No.

    This parameter is valid only when Quantity is greater than 1. The system starts from a specified start number and adds a number to the name of each created clone in ascending order.

    [Value range]

    0 to (10000 – Quantity)

    NOTE:

    For example, if you want to create 30 clones in a batch, the start number ranges from 0 to 9970.

  4. Click OK.

Follow-Up Procedure

After a clone is created, it is identified as a volume. You can view the cloned volume and create snapshots or clones for the volume by choosing Services > Block Service > Volume.
