Learn how to collect vital product data (VPD) from
the managed system with Service Focal Point for the Integrated Virtualization
Manager.
The information in the VPD file can be used to complete the following
types of orders for your managed system:
- Install or remove a sales feature
- Upgrade or downgrade a model
- Upgrade or downgrade a feature
To collect vital product data (VPD), follow these steps.
- In the Service Utilities Menu pane, select Collect VPD
Information. The Collect VPD Information page
is displayed.
- Click Collect VPD. The
information is collected, and the VPD file information is displayed.
- To download the VPD file to your PC, click the link in the VPD
File column for the VPD file that you want to download, and follow the prompts
to download the file. The VPD file includes the following information
about your managed system:
- Host name
- Machine type/model
- Machine serial number
- Operating system level
- Feature information
- Feature location
- Field Replaceable Unit (FRU)/part number
- Engineering Change (EC) level
- Serial number
The VPD information is stored in the /var/adm/invscout directory on
your hard drive. It is named hostname.xml where hostname is the name
of your host system. For example, mysystem.xml.
