Using the HMC to work with the temporary and permanent side of the service processor

Learn how to use the HMC to determine which side of the service processor you are booting from.

Note: You should usually be running on the Temporary side.
  1. From the HMC command line, issue the following command:
    lssyscfg -r sys
  2. Identify the managed system you are working with by looking for the system number at the beginning of the block of output, and look for this parameter: curr_power_on_side.
  3. Record the information that is displayed in the results for curr_power_on_side (either temp or perm). You will need this information later in this procedure if you decide to change the boot side.
  4. If you need to change the boot side, refer to Switching to the other side of the service processor.
