This topic highlights changes made with this release that relate to partitioning in general.
Integrated Virtualization Manager
The Integrated Virtualization Manager is a browser-based system management interface for Virtual I/O Server that allows you to create and manage AIX® and Linux® logical partitions on a single IBM® eServer™ p5, IBM System p5™, or IBM eServer OpenPower™ server. See Partitioning with the Integrated Virtualization Manager for more information.
Virtual Partition Manager
The Virtual Partition Manager is a feature of i5/OS® V5R3 that allows you to create and manage up to four Linux logical partitions from a single i5/OS logical partition on an IBM eServer i5 server. See Partitioning with the Virtual Partition Manager for more information.
InfiniBand (IB)
You can now use InfiniBand (IB) devices with logical partitions on systems that are managed using a Hardware Management Console (HMC). You can assign a globally unique ID (GUID) on an InfiniBand (IB) adapter to a partition profile as required, and the logical partition can use the device associated with that GUID when you activate the logical partition using the partition profile. You can assign only one GUID from each physical InfiniBand (IB) adapter to each partition profile. Also, each GUID on an InfiniBand (IB) adapter can be used by only one logical partition at a time.
