Memory requirements for an AIX logical partition

This topic lists the memory requirements for an AIX® logical partition.

The smallest partition that can be defined on a POWER5™ system is 128 MB of memory. This is supported for partitions running AIX 5L™ Version 5.2 with the 5200-04 Technology Level or later, AIX 5.3, and Linux®. There are implications on how big a partition can grow based on the amount of memory allocated initially. For partitions that are initially sized less than 256 MB, the maximum size is 16 times the initial size. For partitions initially sized 256 MB or larger, the maximum size is 64 times the initial size.

The smallest increment for adding or removing memory from a partition on POWER5 is 16 MB.
