Download the xSeries server firmware

For a successful installation you must update your xSeries^® server with the latest version of system basic input/output system (BIOS) and Advanced Systems Management firmware before installing the IXA card. Download the firmware from http://www.ibm.com/pc/support using the following instructions:

On the main page, in the Use Quick path field, enter the product number for your xSeries server and click Go.
On the main support page for your server, in the View by document type menu, select the Downloads and drivers link.
Find the BIOS heading and select the link for Flash BIOS Update (DOS Update Package). This page contains links to download the self-extracting executable file that creates the update diskette and a text file explaining the update. There is also a link with instructions on how to download and create the diskette. Follow these instructions to create the diskette.
Attention: Be sure to use the DOS version of the package, because the update is done prior to installing an operating system.
When you have created the diskette, click Back on your browser to return to the main Downloads and drivers page.
Find the heading for the appropriate Advanced Systems Management hardware you will be using in your xSeries server and click the appropriate link. Depending on your server, the heading title or link is one of the following:
- Advanced Systems Management or Advanced System Management Processor firmware link
- Remote Supervisor Adapter or Remote Supervisor Adapter Firmware update (DOS update package) link
- Remote Supervisor Adapter II or Remote Supervisor Adapter II Firmware update or Remote Supervisor Adapter II Firmware update (Packet files only) link
The content of the next page differs based on the Advanced Systems Management hardware type that your xSeries server has.
Follow these directions to create the diskettes based on the Advanced Systems Management hardware type that the xSeries server has:
- For Advanced Systems Management Processor or Remote Supervisor Adapter hardware, the page contains links to download one or more self-extracting executable files for creating update diskettes and a text file explaining the update. There is also a link with instructions on how to download and create the diskettes. Follow these directions to create the diskettes.
- For all Remote Supervisor Adapter II hardware, the page contains links to download a .zip file with the update package and a text file explaining the update. Download the .zip file and the package extracted from it onto a diskette.
After you have completed the previous step, click Back on your browser to return to the Downloads and drivers main page.
Depending on the model of xSeries server, there might also be another Advanced Systems Management hardware component to update. Locate one of the following under the Advanced Systems Management heading and click on the appropriate link to download:
- Integrated System Management Processor update
- Baseboard Management Controller update
Download and create the diskette or diskettes as you did for BIOS.
After you have completed the downloads, you can Update the xSeries server firmware.
