Upgrading your server to an IBM eServer model

In this scenario, you want to upgrade to a IBM System i5™ or IBM® eServer™ i5 server.

What to do

If you are upgrading to a IBM System i5 or IBM eServer i5 server without changing the serial number, it is not necessary to perform an explicit data migration. You can use the Upgrades topic.

If you are moving hardware to your new server, then your data will transfer. If your hardware is not compatible with your new server, you can use data migration.
