Using the HMC to perform a slow boot

Learn how to perform a slow boot using the HMC.

In some cases, you need to perform a slow-mode boot in order to perform extended diagnostic testing.

Note:
A slow-mode boot might yield a new reference code on the control panel, or new errors in the service processor error log. When the server reports a new error code, record it for use in subsequent steps.
  1. Record any reference codes appearing on the control panel or HMC.
  2. Shut down all logical partitions and the server.
  3. In the navigation area, open Systems Management.
  4. Open Servers.
  5. Select the server you want to perform a slow boot on.
  6. In the Tasksarea, select Properties.
  7. Click the Power-On Parameters tab.
  8. Record the current boot setting in the Current column next to the Power-on speed override box.
  9. Select slow from the list in the Power-on speed override box in the Next column.
    Note:
These settings will apply to all future boots. After you complete the service action, change the settings back to what you recorded in step 8.
  10. Click OK.
  11. After you are done, return to the step in the procedure that caused you to perform a slow boot. This ends the procedure.
