Fan

Use this procedure to service the fan.

  1. The fan will be serviced non-concurrently.

Remove power from the enclosure containing the FRU. Powering off the enclosure is accomplished through the enclosure's host server. For additional information, refer to the "Powering on and powering off" topic located in the host server's service guide.

  2. Attention:

Failure to follow the step-by-step sequence for this FRU removal and/or installation may result in FRU or system damage.

Use the following precautions whenever you handle electronic components or cables.

    • Attach a wrist strap to an unpainted metal surface of your hardware to prevent electrostatic discharge from damaging your hardware.
    • If you do not have a wrist strap, just prior to removing the product from ESD packaging and installing or replacing hardware, touch an unpainted metal surface of the system for a minimum of 5 seconds.
    • Keep all electronic components in the shipping container or envelope until you are ready to install them.
    • If you remove, then re-install an electronic component, temporarily place the component on an ESD pad or blanket, if available.

  3. Remove the tray assembly.

    1. Label and disconnect any cables (A) that are connected into the front of the tray assembly.
    2. While pushing the latch (B) towards the tray assembly, grasp the tray assembly and pull it partially out of the system.

  4. Remove the fan.

    1. Disconnect the fan cable (A) located on the ESM card by squeezing the cable latch.
    2. Pull the four blue mounting grommets (B) out of the grooves in the fan tray and lift the fan (C) out of the assembly.

  5. Install the fan.

    1. Place the fan (A) into its location in the tray assembly.
    2. Press down on the four blue mounting grommets (B) ensuring that they are correctly seated into the grooves.
    3. Insert the fan cable (C) into its connector on the ESM card.

  6. Install the tray assembly.

    1. Ensure the latch (A) is installed by inserting the tabs on the latch into the holes in the tray assembly.
    2. Align the tray assembly with its bay and push it fully into the system until the latch locks the tray assembly into place.
    3. Connect all cables (B) to the front of the tray assembly that you previously disconnected.

  7. Power on the enclosure.

Power on the enclosure containing the FRU. Powering on the enclosure is accomplished through the enclosure's host server. For additional information, refer to the "Powering on and powering off" topic located in the host server's service guide.
