SMP Cable

Use this information to replace the SMP cable.

  1. Power off the system and remove the power cords

    The component will not be serviced concurrently.

    If this system is powered on, power it off before continuing.

    If possible, shut down any running applications and the operating system before powering off the system.

    Once the system is powered off, remove all power cords from all of the processor enclosures starting with the primary processor enclosure (topmost) and then each secondary enclosure working from top to bottom.

  2. Remove the Front Cover
    1. Open the front rack door.
    2. Loosen the thumbscrew (A) on the right side of the cover.
    3. Slide the cover to the right and remove it from the system unit slot (B).
  3. Remove SMP Cable

    Beginning with the SMP processor cable connection to the lowest system unit in the rack, and moving up to the SMP processor cable connection to the highest system unit in the rack, perform the following for each rack:

    1. Carefully pull the handle (A) from the system until the connector is unseated.
    2. When the guide pins (B) are free, carefully pull the SMP processor cable away from the system unit.
    3. Carefully pull the cable away from the rack and set it aside.
  4. Install SMP Cable

    Place the SMP processor cable into position over the system units so that the connectors on the cable align with the processor cards in each unit.

    Beginning with the topmost SMP cable connection and continuing downward, perform the following for each rack:

    1. Align the guide pins (A) with the connectors (B) on the system unit.
    2. Using the handle (C), carefully push the SMP processor cable into the system unit connector.
  5. Install the Front Cover
    1. Open the front rack door.
    2. Loosen the thumbscrew (A) on the right side of the cover.
    3. Slide the cover to the right and remove it from the system unit slot (B).
  6. Install the power cords

    Reinstall the power cords for all of the processor enclosures.

    Install the cords in the following order:

    1. Secondary 2
    2. Secondary 3
    3. Primary
    4. Secondary 1
  7. Verify the repair
