Power Supply

Use this procedure to service the power supply.

  1. You must determine if the repair can continue concurrently. To continue the repair concurrently, the following conditions must be true:
    • Another power supply must already be installed . This power supply has three LEDs. The LEDs must be set as follows:
    • AC Input - on, not blinking
    • DC Output - on, not blinking
    • Fault/Identify - off

If any of these conditions are not met, the repair can continue only after powering off the unit containing the FRU that is being repaired. If the unit is already powered off, you may proceed with a non-concurrent repair.

  2. Continue the repair concurrently or non-concurrently.

Concurrent repair. Continue the repair with unit power on. Non-concurrent repair. Power off the unit and continue the repair. Delay the repair.
V V This ends the procedure.
  3. Open the back rack door

    Open the back rack door.

  4. Will you be doing a concurrent repair?
    No Yes
    V Go to step 6.
  5. Use this procedure to service the Power Supply.

The component will not be serviced concurrently. If this system is powered on, power it off before continuing.

    Go to step 7.
  6. Use this procedure to service the Power Supply.

The component will be serviced concurrently. Power should not be removed from the unit containing the FRU in the location field above during this procedure.

  7. Disconnect the power cord

Disconnect the power cord from the power supply being serviced.

  8. Remove the power supply

NOTE: If this is a concurrent repair, two power supplies must be present in the system in order to power on the system unit. If one power supply fails, or you have a system failure that does not stop the fans, the system will continue to operate. You can remove and replace the power supply with the system power on if it is done in LESS THAN FIVE MINUTES. After five minutes, the system will power down to prevent the system from over heating.

    1. Push the handle latch (A) to release the handle.
    2. Lift the handle (B) up and into the open position.
    3. Using the handle, pull the power supply out of the power supply bay. CAUTION: This part or unit is heavy, but has a weight smaller than 18 kilograms (39.7 pounds). Use care when lifting, removing, or installing this part or unit. (C008)
  9. Install the Power Supply
    1. With the handle and latch in the open position, place the power supply in the power supply bay (A).
    2. Push the power supply completely into the power supply bay.
    3. Close the handle (B), and then push the handle latch into the closed position (C).
  10. Connect the power cord

Connect the power cord to the newly installed power supply.

  11. You must determine if the new power supply is operational. The new power supply is operational if its LEDs are set as follows:
    • AC Input - on, not blinking
    • DC Output - on, not blinking
    • Fault/Identify - blinking or off

If the LEDs are set differently, you must determine why. Make sure the power supply is plugged into a working AC power source, try installing a different power supply, or call your next level of support.

  12. Close the back rack door

    Close the back rack door.

  13. Verify the repair
