HCA Configuration -- Adapter ID

Use this window to configure the Host Channel Adapter (HCA) for the partition profile.

The HCA 2 adapter supports a maximum of 16 logical partitions, which means a maximum of 16 GUIDs will be available for selection. The number of partitions supported is set using the command line command chssyscfg. The default number of partitions supported is 1.

To configure the HCA for the partition profile, use the following adapter settings:

GUID index range
This field shows the range of Globally Unique Identifier (GUID) index values that are available from the HCA. You can assign only one of these values to this partition profile as the GUID index value for this HCA. This field cannot be changed.
GUID index
This field specifies the GUID index value to be assigned to the partition profile for this HCA. The GUID index value determines which GUID on the HCA is assigned to the partition profile. The GUID index value must be an integer that is within the range shown in the GUID index range field.
A GUID is an eight-byte sequence of hexidecimal numbers that identifies a node. The first seven bytes of the GUID uniquely identify the HCA within the InfiniBand fabric. All GUIDs on an HCA start with the same first seven bytes. The last byte of each GUID is formed by subtracting 1 from the GUID index and converting the result to hexidecimal.
Capability
This field specifies the amount of resource to be allocated to the GUID from the HCA. Possible values are:
  • Low
1/16 (6.25%) of the resources of the adapter are allocated to the GUID. Because the resources are not evenly divided, the maximum number of partitions that can be activated with Low is 15.
  • Medium
1/8 (12.5%) of the resources of the adapter are allocated to the GUID.
  • High
1/4 (25%) of the resources of the adapter are allocated to the GUID.
  • Dedicated
All (100%) of the resources of the adapter are allocated to the GUID.
