Tagged I/O

Displays information about the physical location of tagged I/O resources for the partition. A tagged resource is an I/O processor (IOP) that controls a device that performs a specific function for a logical partition. The devices that perform the essential functions are the load source disk unit, the alternate restart device, the partition console, the alternate partition console, and the Operations Console direct device.

This information is shown for IBM i partitions only. You cannot change these values on this page.

The physical location of the following I/O resources is shown:

Load source

Displays the physical location of the disk unit that contains the IBM i licensed program for the partition. Each logical partition must have one disk unit designated as the load source. The system uses the load source to start the logical partition. This unit is always identified as unit number 1 in the disk configuration displays.

Alternate restart device

Displays the physical location of a tape or optical device that contains the IBM i licensed program for the partition. This device is used when you are installing from tape or optical media, or when the load source disk unit is unavailable.

Console

Displays the console device that an operator can use to control and observe the operation of IBM i on the logical partition. The console device can be the HMC itself, the physical location of a workstation, or a logical port on a Host Ethernet Adapter (HEA).

Alternate console

Displays the physical location of a second workstation that is used by an operator to control and observe the system operation when the console workstation is unavailable. This setting applies only if the primary console device is a twinaxial console.

Operations Console direct

Displays the physical location of the Operations Console direct device. This device is connected to an external line and is used to send information to your support provider when the managed system encounters problems.

You are not required to specify an Operations Console direct device. Only one logical partition per managed system needs to have an Operations Console direct device enabled.
