(Temporary processors table)

Shows the number of processors that are temporarily activated on the managed system for each of the CoD options. You can also see the state of each CoD option.

The following CoD options may be shown:

On/Off CoD

You can see the total number of On/Off Capacity on Demand (On/Off CoD) processors that are temporarily activated on the managed system. On/Off CoD allows you to activate the inactive processors that are installed on the managed system for a specified number of days as your business peaks demand. You are charged for the total number of processor days that the On/Off CoD processors remain activated. You can also see the state of the On/Off CoD option. Possible values are:

Available

You can activate one or more of your inactive processors for a specified number of days using On/Off CoD.

Running

An On/Off CoD request is currently active on the managed system.

Unreturned

You have previously activated On/Off CoD processors, but the request period has expired and you have not made all the processors available to be reclaimed by the managed system. Unreturned processor days are recorded at the beginning of each 24-hour period. You will be charged for these unreturned processor days at the end of the On/Off CoD billing cycle. To make the processors available to be reclaimed by the managed system, you need to remove them from all partitions to which they are assigned. In some cases, you might want to delete the specific partitions to which the processors were assigned.

Code Not Entered

On/Off CoD for processors is not enabled on the managed system. You must obtain and enter an On/Off processor enablement code before you can activate any inactive processors using On/Off CoD.

Not Available

An On/Off processor enablement code has been entered on the managed system and processor days are available. However, because one or more of the following conditions exists, you cannot activate any inactive processors using On/Off CoD at this time:

Not Capable

On/Off CoD for processors is not supported on the managed system.
Trial CoD

You can see the total number of Trial Capacity on Demand (Trial CoD) processors that are temporarily activated on the managed system. Trial CoD allows you to activate the inactive processors that are installed on the managed system for a trial period (that is, a defined number of days). You can also see the state of the Trial CoD option. Possible values are:

Running

Trial CoD processors are temporarily activated on the managed system.

Not Running

Trial CoD processors are not activated on the managed system. To start Trial CoD on the managed system, you must obtain and enter a Trial processor code.

Unreturned

Trial CoD processors are still in use after the Trial CoD period has expired. The Trial CoD processors that were activated could not be reclaimed by the managed system when the trial period ended. Remove the processors from all partitions to allow the managed system to reclaim them. In some cases, you might want to delete the specific partitions to which the processors were assigned.

Not Capable

Trial CoD for processors is not supported on the managed system.

Utility CoD

You can see the number of processors that are temporarily activated on the managed system for each of the CoD options. You can also see the state of each CoD option on the managed system. Possible values are:

Available

A Utility CoD request can be started.

Available - Reporting Required

Same as Available except usage reporting is required because the reporting threshold has been reached.

Running

A Utility CoD request is currently active.

Running - Reporting Required

Same as Running except usage reporting is required because the reporting threshold has been reached.

Suspended

Utility CoD is enabled, but a Utility CoD request cannot be started because the processor minute usage limit established by the customer has been reached.

Suspended - Reporting Required

Same as Suspended except usage reporting is required because the reporting threshold has been reached.

Not Available

Utility CoD is enabled, but a Utility CoD request cannot be started (no processors are available, Trial or On/Off CoD is running, or there are unreturned Trial or On/Off CoD processors).

Not Available - Reporting Required

Same as Not Available except usage reporting is required because the reporting threshold has been reached.

Code Not Entered

Utility CoD is not enabled.

Disabled - Reporting Required

Utility CoD has been disabled on your managed system because Utility CoD usage has not been reported as required. Utility CoD is disabled when one of the following conditions exists:

If you want to activate Utility CoD processors, report your Utility CoD usage and request a new Utility CoD enablement code at the CoD website. Enter the Utility CoD reporting code first on the HMC, and then enter the Utility CoD enablement code.

Reserve CoD

You can see the total number of Reserve Capacity on Demand (Reserve CoD) processors that are temporarily activated on the managed system. Reserve CoD allows you to pre-pay for a specified number of processor days. You can then activate the inactive processors that are installed on the managed system as your business requires.

The activated processors are placed in the default shared processor pool, where they are used as needed by uncapped partitions. Whenever the capacity of the non-Reserve CoD processors in the default shared processor pool is no longer sufficient to support the workload, then the Reserve CoD processors are used. When a Reserve CoD processor is used, a reserve processor day is charged against the Reserve CoD prepaid number of days. You pay only for the number of processor days that the processors are actually used. The processors can remain active until the number of days you have paid for has been used.

You can also see the state of the Reserve CoD option. Possible values are:

Available

You can activate one or more of your inactive processors using Reserve CoD.

Running

A Reserve CoD request is currently active on the managed system.

Code Not Entered

Reserve CoD for processors is not enabled on the managed system. You must obtain and enter a Reserve capacity prepaid code before you can activate any inactive processors using Reserve CoD.

Not available

A Reserve capacity prepaid code has been entered on the managed system and processor days are available. However, because one or more of the following conditions exists, you cannot activate any inactive processors using Reserve CoD at this time:

Reserve CoD for processors is not supported on the managed system.
