Specify the location of the LIC repository
You can download LIC updates from several repository locations.
The level of LIC updates you want to download (most recent level or earlier level)
and the type of service connection you use (your modem or direct Internet connection)
can determine the repository location of the LIC updates.
For more information, see Updates under the Service Management section in the
Operations Guide for the Hardware Management Console.
Select the location of the LIC repository:
- None
- Specifies that no repository is selected.
This option is available when you select View system information.
If you select None, you see only
information for LIC levels currently loaded on the
target managed system.
Select a specific repository to see the retrievable disruptive activate and
retrievable concurrent activate code levels available
at that repository, in addition to the information for
LIC levels currently loaded on the target managed system.
- IBM service web site
- Specifies the IBM service Internet site as the
repository location.
This site contains only the most recent level of LIC updates.
Updates can be downloaded from an HMC using your direct Internet connection.
- IBM support system
- Specifies the IBM Service Support System as the repository location.
This site provides all available levels of LIC updates
to download using either your modem or
direct Internet connection.
- Removeable media
- Specifies removeable media on the HMC as the repository location.
Examples of removeable media are the DVD drive and a USB flash memory device.
When this option is selected, another window will open to allow you to
select which removeable media device should be used. Select DVD drive
when a LIC update was ordered and you receive the update on optical media
by mail.
- FTP site
- Specifies a remote file transfer protocol (FTP) server
site as the repository location and allows you to type the
remote FTP server site, user ID, and password.
Specify FTP site when you know the update is on
another system.
For example, a system administrator at the Chicago
branch office downloaded the update to an FTP server at his location yesterday.
Today, you want to retrieve the update from the FTP server so you can
download it to the server at your site.
If you select the FTP site, you need to know the following information:
- FTP site - The fully qualified host and domain name of the
FTP server from which you want to download the update.
- User ID - Your user ID for the FTP server.
- Password - Your password for the FTP server.
- Directory - The location on the FTP server that contains the LIC update.
- Hard drive
- Specifies the internal hard disk drive on the HMC
as the repository location.
Select this if you know the update is on the hard drive.
