Create Storage Pool

Use this page to create a storage pool on your managed system.

To create a storage pool, you can assign physical volumes to the storage pool or you can use files. When you assign physical volumes to a storage pool, the managed system erases the information on the physical volumes, divides the physical volumes into physical partitions, and adds the capacity of the physical partitions to the storage pool.

Do not add a physical volume to the storage pool if the physical volume contains data that you want to preserve. All data on the physical volume is destroyed when add it to the storage pool.

Storage pool name

Specify the name of the storage pool that you are about to create.

Storage pool type

Select the type of storage pool you want to create. You can create storage pools that are based either on files (file-based) or on volume groups (volume group-based)

File Based

This section appears only when File Based is selected as the storage pool type. File based is defined as content that is written and stored in a specific file format.

Existing storage pool

Select the existing storage pool from which you want to create the file-based storage pool.

Storage pool size

Enter the size of the new file-based storage pool in Megabytes (MB), Gigabytes (GB), or Terabytes (TB).

Volume Group Based

This section appears only when Volume Group Based is selected as the storage pool type.

(Physical volumes)

This table lists the physical volumes on your managed system that are currently not assigned to any logical partition or to any storage pool.

Select the physical volumes that you want to assign to the storage pool by selecting the corresponding options in the Select column.

The table includes the following information about each physical volume:

Physical Volume
This column displays the name of the physical volume.
Size
This column displays the size of the physical volume in megabytes (MB), gigabytes (GB), or terabytes (TB).
Physical Location Code
This column displays the physical location code identifying the location of the physical volume within the managed system.
